Dr Vasundhara Kalasapudi, is an Indian born medical professional settled in New York, USA , 27 years ago. She is an expert in geriatric psychiatry who was recently honoured by ‘Next Avenue’ as one of the fifty “Influencers in Aging for 2017”. The foundation covers advocates, researchers, thought leaders, innovators, writers and experts at the forefront of changing how we age and think about aging.
Known as Dr K, Vasundhara founded India Home, a non profit organisation in 2007, dedicated to addressing the needs of the Indian and larger South Asian Senior citizen immigrant community. Driven by a group of committed professionals, India Home provides social, psychological, recreational and spiritual services in a culturally sensitive environment.
Having lost her father to dementia, Dr Vasundhara, envisioned India Home as antidote to the loneliness and isolation experienced by elderly people. India Home is a unique concept different from old age homes. The organisation works for Bangladeshi, Indian, Indo-Caribbean, Pakistani and other South Asian elders through Health & Wellness programmes, recreational activities, community education, case management, advocacy and awareness campaigns at 5 different centres located in temples, churches, muslim centres and community houses spread across New York .
